2018-01-21: The Frozen World – A week of melting

When I decided on the topic for the month, I had many plans for posts.  Many plans that I have not been able to put in to action because of the weather.  C’est la vie.

This week has seen warm temperatures and generally lots of overcast days, though I did manage to get out a couple times for a few quick photos when the sun was out.  The warm temperatures and occasional rain have left the snow covered in a sheet of ice; areas almost look like they have been glazed with the fancy icing that goes on sugar cookies.  I found that to be difficult to convey in an image though, and reducing everything to black and white made it somewhat more apparent.

I hope you enjoy my selections for the week.

The icy surface of the snow being illuminated by the midday sun.  The days may be getting longer, but the sun is still very low in the sky.

I hadn’t been expecting the see the rocky shoreline when I went out to the lake to explore a bit.  Faint tracks of snow machines head off in both directions.

The temperature may have been unseasonably warm, but the trees aren’t buying it yet.  Definitely no buds to be seen, just barren branches reaching skywards.

The collapsing snow looked to me like to surface of the moon… or perhaps like Swiss cheese if you’re hungry 🙂

2017-07-20: WPC Unusual

The photo topic of the week is Unusual… which could be taken in just about any imaginable direction.  But I’m turning towards a stunning show mother nature put on while I was on safari.

While staying at Ngala in South Africa, we departed for our morning game drive under dark and drizzly skies, but with the promise of a clearing day ahead.  Our route took us through a very open area, giving us a great vantage to both the east and west.  To the east, the sun breaking through the clouds, the sky on fire with intense colour.  Above us, rainfall.  And to the west, the moon still visible and a double rainbow arcing across the sky.  It was the first time I recall seeing a sunrise rainbow, and definitely the first I’ve seen on safari.

What a morning 🙂

2017-06-16: Feel Good Friday

The skies here have been pretty dreary the last couple days, so I thought seeing a few African sunrises would perk me up.

Wishing everyone a great weekend ahead 🙂

10-30-2016: Vida Voices Collection

I am very excited as I have been wanting to share this opportunity that I have been working on for some time!

Jennifer Sawicky – Vida Voices Collection

vida-collection

I have been working on creating textile designs from my photography with a company called Vida.  I was hesitant to make any announcement about it until I had product in hand; now that I have seen the tops and scarves, I am confident in the quality of the products that they are making.  I have been having lots of fun editing my photos for this project, utilizing both photo realistic and stylized designs.

This is something that I will be working on over time, and as I add some new designs, I will share them here as well as on my Facebook and Instagram pages.  Certainly if you have any suggestions of photographs that should be added, please do let me know!

As always, you can find my work available for print sales here.

2016-09-25: What I've seen this week

I returned home Monday night from a fabulous trip to Uganda and Kenya.  While I’ve been spending the week trying to get back into my normal routine, I have had some time to edit a few photo from the trip.  There will be lots more of photos (and stories) over the coming weeks and months.  Here’s a sneak peak of what’s to come.

Enjoy your Sunday 🙂
