Common Yellowthroat

These are a few more photos from my wonderful walk last Sunday morning.  It took me some time to identify the type of bird when I got home; going back and forth from the computer screen to my bird book and bird websites to figure it out.

A common yellowthroat (bottom right) in the long grasses that line the river. I am not certain what type of bird is top left. 1/250 sec, f5.6, ISO 100

I included this not because it is a great picture (clearly, it isn't). When reviewing it though, it reminded me a bit of those old Where's Waldo books. There is a yellowthroat in this picture... somewhere :)

I knew it wasn't a goldfinch I was seeing when flashes of brilliant yellow appeared in the trees and grasses while I was out walking (although I have seen goldfinches along other stretches of the dike before). It took a bit of searching through my bird book in order to figure out what to call this beauty. 1/400 sec, f6.3, ISO 400

Deer

I saw this beauty driving home this morning.   I was amazed when it calmly stood by, my car parked no more than 6 feet away, while I snapped a few quick pictures with my phone.

Coyote

This certainly isn't a stellar photo, but I was happy to finally have my camera on hand when I saw a coyote. 1/200sec, f5.6, ISO 100

Sunday morning was incredibly beautiful.  We were up bright and early, and heading off for our favourite spot at the dikes before 6.  I haven’t had much success recently when I have taken my camera along, but this past Sunday more than made up for that.  I’ve got lots of images to go through, both landscape and of birds. 🙂

As I was driving, the light was so lovely that I had to pull aside and put on my 4-way flashers while I snapped away.  Good thing it was so early and the road was deserted.

Here are a few shots from the side of the road.  More to follow in the coming days as I have time to edit and organize.

I just had to stop the car to get a few photos. The mist, the mountains and the clouds were all just perfect.

Spencer – 10 years together

Ten years ago, I drove up to Kaleden and returned home with 4 1/2 pounds of fluff and attitude.  My life forever changed.

Just a few months old, playing with his teething keys. I was very lucky he almost always chose to destroy his own things rather than mine.

He’s always been, and always will be, much more than just a dog.

Out at the dikes for a walk, one of his favourite places.

Rather than say any more, it’s time to grab the leash and head out for an early morning walk; just us and the birds, which we both prefer.
