2015-12-06: What I’ve seen this week

This week, let’s great straight to the pictures!  I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend 🙂

A pine grosbeak working on a pinecone. I’m getting closer to getting a decent photo of the brightly coloured male. 1/640sec, f8.0, ISO 400

Getting even closer, but still not the type of shot I’m hoping for. 1/500sec, f5.6, ISO 2200

I love the shape of this crow flying overhead. 1/500sec, f5.6, ISO 400

Such an epic sunrise. At the time I was thinking it’s a shame to have the road and the wires visible, but I probably wouldn’t have had this view anywhere else. 1/640sec, f8.0, ISO 400

It was so beautiful I had to include two photos it. A brilliantly foggy sunrise.

A young deer grazing on my lawn. The early morning and dull day certainly didn’t do me any favours for photography; I was just happy to watch this little one and her Mom relax and graze around the yard. 1/250sec, f5.6, ISO 6400

Trying to capture a decent shot before sunrise on a dull day… not happening. But I was walking along thinking about white bunnies and hoping I’d see one soon that I could capture a photo of, and then I spotted this one 🙂 1/500sec, f5.6, ISO6400

My lunchtime walk brought another sighting of the bunny, in better light. I snapped a quick photo, and started to slowly move closer, hoping to get something better than this. 1/400sec, f5.6, ISO2800

I tried to move closer to take a better photo of the bunny, but it got spooked by a passing car, and all that was left was this tiny clump of fur caught on a branch. There was a tiny sunbeam coming through there; perhaps it was enjoying the warmth of the day.

2015-11-29: What I’ve seen this week

Cold temperatures and sunny skies this week have made for a some beautiful walks.  I was delighted Tuesday to see a pileated woodpecker for the first time in a few years; I was even happier when it decided to fly from the thicker trees to an electrical post, and perch in the sunlight long enough for me to take a few photos.

I hope you enjoy my selections from this week – have a great evening!

There was a light breeze this morning blowing snow and frost off the roofs and tree branches, and when you looked into the sun, the sky was glittering. I captured a little of it, but trying to freeze that in time really didn’t do the moment justice. 1/800sec, f5.6, ISO 900

Simply a beautiful day 🙂

I took a quick trip to Vancouver this weekend; this was a snap out the window with my cellphone.

20151129_What I've seen this week-6
A bit cluttered with all the components and wires, but it does give a better ideal of this woodpecker’s size (around the size of a crow).

I didn’t zoom out in time, and cut off the wings, but I included this anyways because I think the sunlight coming through the wingtips is just too beautiful not to share.

2015-11-22: What I’ve seen this week

This will be a brief one, as I haven’t taken many photos this week.  I’ve seen a few interesting things that didn’t translate into photographs though; like the tracks of a moose passing through my yard (and from what I can see of the hoof print and the stride, a large one as well).

My Tamron lens is back from sick bay, and I am hoping I will get a chance or two this week to take it out on my walks and see if it is working properly again.  The extra reach will be nice as the grosbeaks seem to be just a little too far away a lot of the time to get any photos.

Have a wonderful evening – hopefully I will have more to share next week!

Spencer has been having a lot of fun zipping around the yard after our walks, playing in the small amount of snow we currently have.

Sunset is happening really early these days – this was just after 4pm! Some beautiful colours peeking through from behind the evergreens.

A female pine grosbeak hopping between branches, working on the pinecones. I’m hoping one day I’ll see one of the brightly coloured males in light like this; it was such a beautifully sunny day! 1/500sec, f6.3, ISO220

2105-09-20: What I’ve seen this week

Due to general busy-ness, a business trip and the weather, I didn’t get a chance to get out with my camera too much this past week.  I did however finally get a shot of my neighbour Northern Flicker (not a great shot mind you, but I was starting to think that it was taunting me by calling out while I was walking and flying amongst the trees just at the point where I was unable to capture it).  Fingers crossed I’ll have a few more opportunities in the coming week to get out and shoot a bit.

I hope everyone has a great week! Enjoy 🙂

A lovely morning with a very expressive sky.

I've yet to have a good opportunity for photographing either the Juncos seen here, or our local chickadees. Both flit around so quickly, by the time I have figured out what tree they are in and have focused, they are long gone.

Unfortunately my chance to get a photo of the local northern flicker was marred by both low light and fog, but hopefully I will get another chance soon under more favourable conditions.

This hairy woodpecker was calling continuously from the trees while I was out walking, I believe this is a member of the group of three I have posted before.

There are two lovely horses that live on my walking route. If they happen to be grazing nearby when I walk past with Spencer, they usually come over to the fence to get a look. I think this one might be a bit overdue for a mane trim.

The other beautiful horse that I see quite frequently. I'm sure people driving by think I'm a little crazy as I stand there with my little dog and talk to the horses.

CEE’S FUN FOTO CHALLENGE: HABITS

My post for Cee’s fun photo challenge topic of habits came to me while out walking with Spencer a couple mornings ago, when I started noticing the litter on the side of the road.  Luckily there isn’t too much, but I thought that not only is litter itself a habit (a bad one!) but the things people chose to litter says a lot about their habits as well.

20150221_Sunrise

Two weeks ago, I managed to get loads of editing done, and had a post a day.  This past week, each day seemed to slip by at record speed, and I didn’t manage a single post (or even to take or edit a single photo).

Thankfully, this morning I grabbed my camera bag when we headed out for our early morning walk.  What a beautiful morning it was!  I picked a particular spot at the dikes, both so I could get a few photos of the sky before heading out, and also the hopes of seeing some interesting ducks that I had spotted the evening before.  It turns out the ducks are common goldeneyes, and I didn’t manage any decent shots of them, but at least they were good enough to get an ID.

This was my favourite shot from the morning.  Enjoy!

20150214 – Great Blue Heron

We left so early for our walk today I didn’t bother grabbing my camera, and as we were leaving the dike I was kicking myself for it.  This would have been so much better shot with something other than my phone.  I’ve never before seen a heron perched on the top of the power lines.

Beautiful evening

After the pea soup fog the last few days, where I could barely see across the road, it was lovely to see the sky clear today.  Even lovelier was the sunset, with the sky like a painting.
Photo taken with my Samsung Note 3.
