2019-05-11: What I’ve seen this week

Here are some images from the past week of my travels, staying at two properties; Lions Sands River and Tinga Lodges. I have had a wonderful time being back in the bush again! It’s tea time shortly and then off to see what the afternoon has in store, so I will keep this brief.

DSCF0967 — A group of oxpeckers atop a rhino.

DSCF1133 — A long-crested eagle and a fork-tailed drongo. The drongo had been mobbing the eagle, and resumed its pestering when the eagle took flight again.

DSCF1227 — A wild dog looks off towards the rest of the pack.

DSCF1445 — Baby elephants are just the cutest!

DSCF1471 — Elephants galore on an afternoon game drive. I think we saw more ellies than impalas!

DSCF1518 — An elephant quenches his thirst, with a large herd of buffalo in the background. Two of the big five in one shot 🙂

DSCF1541 — A family of dwarf mongoose in the fading afternoon light.

DSCF1593 copy-Edit — An impala making good and sure this lioness was heading off.

DSCF2885 — A buffalo making his way past our vehicle, while some rhino look on. Another two of the big five in one shot.

DSCF2952 — A group of wild dogs greeting one another.

DSCF3039 — Soon after this was shot, this baby elephant picked up the pace to catch up with Mom.

2019-05-06: Monochrome Monday

I’m currently traveling so posts will be brief, but I wanted to share an image from my travels so far. I did a day trip on the Panorama Route Sunday, and enjoyed seeing amazing landscapes throughout the day.

The day started out a little bit hazy, but cleared throughout the day and in the end, the weather couldn’t have been more perfect for exploring.

2019-05-05: Lisbon Falls

Greetings from South Africa! I’m so happy to be back in one of my favourite places.

I did a trip along the Panorama Route today, and explored Lisbon Falls, Berlin Falls, the Potholes, God’s Window and the Three Rondavels.

A relaxing glass of wine is calling my name, so I have just edited a single image for now.

I’m heading into the bush tomorrow, so I won’t have a lot of time to post, but I will try my best to keep up my normal Sunday, Monday and Wednesday schedule.

2019-04-29: Monochrome Monday

Just a quick post today as I am running a little short on time at the moment!

I loved watching these elephants greet each other as they all congregated around a dam. Different family groups joined up, took their time with greetings, getting refreshing drinks, and eventually, heading off in their separate ways.

It’s always a joy for me to spend time amongst elephants.

2019-04-22: Monochrome Monday

Here we are at Monday again. I felt like editing some elephant images recently, so that is what I have decided to share today. Elephants, with their amazingly textured skin, look fantastic in monochrome images (at least I think so!)

20170504-DSC_1973 — Giving the grasses a good shake, to remove excess dirt, before eating.

20170511-DSC_4514 — An elephant enjoying a drink at one of the dams on Phinda Game Reserve.

20170514-P1030403 — There is actually a pair of elephants here, climbing out of the dry riverbed in front of Ngala Tented Camp, but one is mostly obscured by the bushes. This image looked pretty flat and lifeless from the harsh midday sun, until I did the black and white conversion. I couldn’t quite go ask them to repeat the trek at a later time when the lighting was more favourable!

2019-04-21: Leopards Playing

While this leopard sighting was almost two years ago, it feels both like a lifetime ago, and also like it was yesterday. I find it interesting how the same experience can occupy those different spaces, seemingly at the same time.

This was the second to last day of my last safari, and the photos don’t need too much commentary. Our ranger took us to a leopard and her two cubs that were deep in a ravine, and while we perched, parked on the side of a rather steep slope, the cubs went about their day, playing, chasing, exploring and occasionally, snuggling up with their Mom.
