2016-05-22: What I’ve seen this week

I spent last weekend in the Lower Mainland, and took some time Saturday morning to head out to my old stomping ground along the dikes to see what I could see.  I was surprised not to see a single osprey nesting, no herons, eagles or hawks… but the smaller songbirds and swallows were out in force to the far end of the dike, where there are usually less people.

Bird on a wire… I love it when the swallows pause long enough for a photo.

Try as I might, I can’t make an ID of this bird; but it was singing the loveliest songs.

A swallow perched in the tree, whilst many others swooped overhead, collecting bugs.

An American Goldfinch eyeing a hummingbird rather wearily.  The hummingbird had been going after any other bird in what she considered to be her territory.  I guess this was a moment of truce.

I spotted this bunny while out walking this morning (along with a trio of deer).  I loved the sunlight illuminating the ears.

I’m not 100% sure, but I believe this is a hermit thrush that I spotted int he bushes while out walking.
